About Scott & Lisa
Scott and Lisa Runzo live in Colorado Springs with their four children. They were both born in Arizona and loved spending most of their lives there. Scott was a firefighter in Mesa, Arizona, and during that time served as a youth pastor for Red Mountain Community Church. Lisa was a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and worked in psychiatric and long term care before leaving her career to raise a young family. As ministry began to grow, Scott and Lisa felt called to enter ministry full-time. Scott served as Red Mountain Community Church’s Pastor of Student Ministries for several years.
Being in youth work Scott and Lisa went on many mission trips. After several mission trips and seeing the greater needs around the world, Scott and Lisa felt that they were being called to full-time missions. A good friend and mentor of the Scott’s who worked for Greater Europe Mission ask Scott and Lisa if they would come and work for GEM. Scott was asked to develop a European wide short-term mission program for the work in Europe. They spent summers as a family in Europe serving missionaries doing many different types of service and mission projects, and lived in Colorado Springs the rest of the year recruiting teams and partnering with churches to develop summer programs.
After several years of serving with Greater Europe Mission, Scott and Lisa knew God was calling them to move overseas full-time. In implementing summer programs throughout Eastern Europe, they knew firsthand that Latvia was in great need of trained youth workers, so Scott and Lisa moved their family to Latvia under the leadership of Josiah Venture. Josiah Venture focuses on training and developing youth leaders specifically in Post-Communist countries. They spent six years in Latvia and returned to the states in 2009.
On there return to the states Scott was hired by Christian African Leadership Ministry (CALM) as their North American Program Director, and Lisa entered the M.A. of Counseling program at Regis University where she will be graduating in August 2012. Scott and Lisa have always felt called to mercy ministries and to the most needy people around the world. They saw this as a God-given season of opportunity to become more involved in third world countries. Scott developed training programs, family sponsorship ministries and medical ministries that help the most needy become healthy and self-sufficient. Durning this time, CALM developed a partnership with GTN and Scott has enjoyed the growing relationship he has had the opportunity to develop with them through the ministries in Africa. Through this partnership God has made clear to the Runzo’s that GTN is a place where they can continue God’s Kingdom work, serving the most needy peoples across the globe.
GTN trains thousands of Christian leaders and laymen throughout the world and equips them Biblically to be sound spiritual leaders within their communities. GJM seeks to leverage the relationships with those leaders to identify opportunities (i.e. needs), develop strategies and put into action programs and projects that will bring God’s mercy and justice to the most vulnerable and suffering. Together GTN and GJM bring both the knowledge and hope of the Gospel to Christian leaders and the vulnerable and suffering within their communities. We believe the unity being created through these two missions will greatly advance the Gospel and God’s Kingdom by equipping and empowering our brothers and sister to both proclaim and demonstrate the Gospel. Scott and Lisa are excited to be a part of this ministry and look forward with great anticipation how God will work out His plans through their service.
