Benjamin du Bord was born and raised among the nations. By the time he turned 18, he was well versed in flying across the globe with his family, tackling cultural adaptations and culture shock like a pro.
While still in high school during a season in the US, he joined the church high school ministry on several missions trips to Tijuana, Mexico where he helped build homes for the poor, and also engaged in ministry to orphans. He served in the children’s ministry and was part of the high school small groups.
Shorty after turning 18 years old, Ben joined Youth with a Mission (YWAM) in Dan Shui, Taiwan in the fall of 2011 and spent six months in their intensive Discipleship Training School. This was followed by an outreach with his team to both Taiwan and Japan. While in Japan, he had opportunity to minister in areas that had been affected by the tsunami. It was during this time, that he felt a strong sense that God is calling him to Japan and the Japanese people.
After finishing his DTS, he embarked on another transition to spend some months with us, his parents, in our new ministry location in the Middle East. He helped us get established and unpacked, and grew in personal attachment to this brand new world that we were living in. He also knew that Japan was at the center of his heart’s desire for the future. Yet, God had another step in mind, and an unexpected one at that.
Ben has always had musical talent, and when an opportunity opened up for him to attend a School of Worship with YWAM in Kona, Hawaii, he decided to go. After the School of Worship – and after a quick visit with us in the Middle East – he returned to join their worship leadership track aimed at equipping worship leaders and Christian musicians to go into all the world. Ben is currently halfway through his training, which has been absolutely amazing.
Upcoming are several outreaches to several Hawaiian islands, where the team will minister through concerts and prayer events. And then, in June, a larger outreach will take place to Asia.
It is Ben’s desire and hope that he will (finally) be ready and able to relocate to Japan after that outreach where he will use his music and love for the Japanese to minister to this unreached nation. We are excited for him and for all that God has in store for his life.
